American Hiking Society:: From their site: American Hiking Society is the only national organization dedicated to promoting and protecting America’s hiking trails, the natural areas that surround them, and the hiking experience itself.

National Scenic Trails:: Mainly an internet mailing list, you can find some great US scenic trails. They'll send you emails with information, or you can view the archives online. Decent information if you have other resources already in place.

Hiking Outpost:: From their site: Hiking Outpost was founded by a group of hikers frustrated by the lack of a one-stop-shop for hiking books and web resources. The vision was to develop a store that would pair the best books with the best web resources

Trail Database:: By far one of the most complete database of trails and hikes worldwide. The site isn't the prettiest, but it's loaded with lots of great information.

Local Hikes:: The Localhikes web site provides information on local hiking opportunities near both large and small metropolitan areas in the United States. You can find the perfect trail by selecting your area or by using the search feature

Trails.com:: Trails.com offers a selection of more than 42,841 trail maps and descriptions and topo maps of the entire United States! This is a mostly subscription/paid site, but the maps are phenomenal!

GORP:: Great site with lots of information on outdoor adventures, run by the people who own orbitz, you can find a good mix of Adventure Travel, hiking info, national parks and gear reviews.
